Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about CCTV, alarms and access control. If your question is not here, call us and ask.

What type of CCTV systems do you install?

We install IP and HD camera systems for homes and businesses, with recording to a local NVR or DVR. The right specification depends on the areas you want to cover, the level of detail you need and the lighting conditions, so we recommend equipment after seeing the property rather than before.

How much does CCTV installation cost?

Cost depends on camera count, cable routes, access, recording requirements and whether network work is needed. Indicative ranges are shown on each service page as planning estimates. We give a firm figure after a survey, and the estimate itself is free.

How many cameras will I need?

That depends on entrances, blind spots, property layout and how much detail you want to capture. Most domestic properties are covered well by a small number of correctly positioned cameras. We prefer to assess the important areas first rather than recommending a count before understanding the site.

Can I view my CCTV remotely?

Yes. Systems can be set up for viewing on a phone, tablet or computer over your internet connection. We configure remote access during handover and show you how to use it, including how to review and export footage.

Can you upgrade an existing CCTV system?

Often, yes. Existing cabling, mounting positions or recording equipment can sometimes be reused, which keeps cost down. We will tell you honestly whether an upgrade makes sense or whether replacement is the better option.

Do you repair CCTV systems you did not install?

Yes. We take on fault finding and repair work on third-party systems, including camera faults, recorder problems, picture loss and remote viewing issues. Tell us what the system is doing and we will advise on the likely cause.

Do you install security systems for businesses?

Yes. We work with shops, offices, workshops, yards and other commercial premises, and can combine CCTV with alarms and access control where a site needs broader coverage.

Can you install alarms and access control too?

Yes. Burglar alarms and access control are part of our standard work, and they can be specified alongside CCTV or on their own.

Which areas do you cover?

Cardiff is our main service area. We also cover Newport, Caerphilly, Barry, Penarth, Pontypridd, Cwmbran and Bridgend, and will travel further across South Wales depending on the work.

Do I need to be at the property during installation?

Someone needs to provide access and agree camera positions before we begin. Once positions are confirmed you do not need to stay for the whole installation, though we will need a short handover at the end.

How long does an installation take?

A straightforward domestic system is usually completed in a day. Larger installations, difficult cable routes or commercial sites can take longer. We will give you a realistic timescale with your estimate.

Do I need to tell anyone I have CCTV installed?

If your cameras only cover your own property, domestic use is generally straightforward. If they capture areas beyond your boundary, such as a pavement or a neighbour's garden, data protection obligations can apply. The Information Commissioner's Office publishes guidance for domestic CCTV users, and we will point out where your coverage may raise this.
